The Nintendo Wii is Nintendo's response to the next
generation of systems, it has been touted as a "new generation" and
"not to compete with Microsoft or Sony".

The Nintendo Wii
Price The Nintendo Wii is debuting for $250, a cheaper price point than any of its other competitors
Control The
console features a unique controller commonly dubbed as the "wiimote"
based on its resemblance to a tv remote. It is able to function as a
pointer, and is able to update the wii on its location in 3D space,
Nintendo is hoping this will spawn new and innotive forms of gameplay,
and re-incarnations of classic gameplay with this new controller. For
games like Super Smash Bros: Brawl, a classic SNES-like controller will
be used instead. The Wii is also said to be able to inter-link with Nintendo's popular
portable system the Nintendo DS (And DS Lite), Not only are game demos
supposed to be able to be downloaded to the DS, Wii games will be able
to use a DS as a controller (simmilarly to Gamecube titles like Final
Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, or the Legend of Zeld the four swords).
Compatibility The
System will be completley backword compatible with the Gamecube, and
has ports for 4 gamecube controllers, and 2 memory cards. It most
likley will not be compatible with the Gameboy Player attachment.
Virtual Console
The wii allows customers to download games from Nintendo's
previous consoles, including some of their competitor's past (Sega,
Hudson). A specific price point is yet to be placed on games, but its
likely that NES games will be the cheapest wheras N64 games will be
more costly.
Wi-Fi The Wii
uses its built-in wireless b/g specification capabilities for Browsing
the web with a built in Opera Browser. The Nintendo Wifi Service is to
be used for playing games online, The other service NintendoConnect24,
keeps your system connected to the internet at all times, so things
like games and firmware can update themselves.
Media The wii can view images and videos off of common SD cards, this feature is great for showing off pictures from a camera to friends and family. It can even play music for slideshows.
